National Water Security Strategy in Libya 2015-2050

Libya's National Water Security Strategy for the period 2015 to 2050 is a comprehensive framework aimed at ensuring the provision of sustainable and safe water for all citizens. This strategy aims to address current and future water-related challenges in Libya and ensure that future generations have access to safe and sustainable water sources.

Pillars & Objectives

Pillar: Improving water resources management
Objectives:
  • Enhancing water use efficiency, reducing waste, and improving water distribution systems.
Pillar: Developing and expanding water sources
Objectives:
  • Developing new water resources, including seawater desalination and groundwater use, as well as improving rainwater management.
Pillar: Maintaining water quality
Objectives:
  • Protecting water sources from pollution and improving the quality of water provided to citizens.
Pillar: Strengthening water infrastructure
Objectives:
  • Modernizing and expanding water and sanitation networks to ensure meeting the growing demand and improving service.
Pillar: Adapting to climate changes
Objectives:
  • Develop plans to adapt to the effects of climate change on water resources.
Pillar: Developing institutional and human capabilities
Objectives:
  • Strengthening the capabilities of institutions concerned with water management, and training human cadres on best practices in this field.
